Everyday spills and moisture underneath are different problems
A dropped drink on the surface is different from water escaping beneath a dishwasher or moisture moving through a concrete slab. The first may be a routine cleaning issue. The others can affect the installation underneath a surface that still looks intact.
When comparing products, read the stated water rating alongside its exclusions and care instructions. Ask how quickly spills should be cleaned, where the product is approved for use, and what the warranty says about leaks or prolonged exposure. Avoid treating a waterproof label as a promise that the whole room is protected from flooding.
What should happen before new LVP goes down
The selected installation system determines what the substrate must be like and which moisture checks or protective layers it requires. A surface can look dry and still need assessment. Existing stains, odor, soft spots, lifting flooring, or a known leak are useful information to share during the consultation.
Do not choose an additional underlayment or vapor barrier simply because a neighbor used one. The correct assembly depends on the product and substrate; an extra layer is not automatically an improvement. COREtec’s installation guidance, for example, distinguishes substrate preparation from the water resistance of its flooring. Use the instructions for the exact collection you buy.

Request your free consultationQuestions for kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior doorways
- Kitchens: Are there current or previous appliance leaks? How will the floor meet cabinets and neighboring materials?
- Bathrooms: Is the product approved for the room and the intended exposure? What details are required around the perimeter and fixtures?
- Exterior doorways: How will tracked-in grit and rainwater be managed? Is the transition appropriate for the door clearance?
- Rooms with strong sunlight: Does the product have temperature or direct-sunlight requirements?
- Unconditioned spaces: Is the collection approved for the temperatures the space actually reaches?
These questions help distinguish a suitable installation from a product that looks right in a sample book but does not match the room.
If there has already been a leak
Address the water source first and describe when it happened and what was affected. Replacing visible planks without understanding conditions underneath can leave the cause unresolved. An active leak or a damaged substrate may need work outside the flooring scope before an installation can proceed.
For an existing vinyl floor, photograph the affected area and keep the product information or spare planks if you have them. RNALDI can discuss repair and replacement options; the available approach depends on the damage, the installation system, and matching material.
Keep daily care simple and product-specific
Clean spills promptly, remove grit, and use cleaning products and equipment permitted by the manufacturer. Do not assume that a steam mop or a stronger chemical is suitable because the planks are described as waterproof.
When you request an estimate, tell us which rooms concern you and whether the issue is daily splashes, a previous leak, or a known moisture problem. That makes the consultation more useful than choosing a floor by a single marketing claim. Request a free consultation for your Florida flooring project.
